Pastor Harris' Bio
Pastor Harris is a native of Calhoun, GA, and is married to the former Deborah Jean McClure. They have been married for 28 years and together have five children: Shana, Anthony, Tiphanie, Chazera, Justin and eight grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Pastor Harris is a very devoted husband, father and grandfather. Over the years he has received numerous awards and recognition in the community.
After graduating from Calhoun High School, Pastor Harris went on to obtain his bachelors degree from The Life Underwriters Training Council. After answering his call to ministry in 1996, he went on to enroll in The Covington Theological Seminary in Rossville, GA, earning his Masters of Divinity degree.
Before his appointment as pastor of TBK, Pastor Harris served faithfully as the Children's Minister, Youth Pastor, and the Assistant Pastor at our sister church, Thankful Baptist Church of Rome, GA.
It was on December 28th, 2003 during our 1st Church Anniversary, our founder Rev. Nim B. Russell installed Assistant Pastor, Rev. John W. Harris and Evangelist Deborah J. Harris as Pastor and First Lady of Thankful Baptist Church of Kennesaw.
Under the Leadership of our Pastor TBK has grown from 8 members to 180 members. On August 18th 2011 ,God allowed through the guidance of the Holy spirit to lead our Pastor along with the members of TBK to purchase our 1st piece of property' which consisted of 5.59 Acres, and the development of a 3000 square ft. worship facility,and in less than a year later we are preparing to break ground on the expansion of our present Worship Facility,and Fellowship Hall /Life Center.
In addition to what God's doing through our Pastor,he still has time to serve as the N.W.GA. GMBC 7th District Vice President of The Congress of Christian Education, and as the Chair, of the Bill Thrash Kennesaw Teen Center, which serves at risk youth in the Kennesaw- Cobb County area. Pastor Harris also serves on the Board of directors for the Through Our Hearts Foundation which is in conjunction with the Kennesaw Police Department, to aide as a networking source for those in distress. Our Pastor servers Co-Chair along side of our 1stlady Evangelist Harris Who serves as the Chair for the City of Kennesaw's 1stever,Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Celebration Committee. And in just its 2nd year gave two, 500.00 awards to eligible High school Seniors, that were matriculating into college,and this year in the city's 3rd annual celebration with the blessing of God were able to give four seniors awards of 500.00
